Vesela and Michael’s spring wedding in Ottawa was a true reflection of who they are: joyful, sentimental, and effortlessly fun. What started as a high school friendship in Quebec eventually turned into a beautiful love story filled with Mario Kart nights, big dreams, and a whole lot of love for their adorable pug, Apny.

A Sentimental First Look & Private Vows

On May 18th, 2025, Vesela and Michael tied the knot in an intimate Ottawa wedding ceremony with just 50 of their closest friends and family. Despite the drizzle, wind, and chilly spring air, the day was filled with warmth, live music, and endless laughter.

The couple shared a heartfelt first look before the ceremony, choosing to read their personal vows in private—a deeply emotional moment that brought a few tears and set the tone for the rest of the day. As wedding photographers in Ottawa, we live for these kinds of raw, candid moments.

A Personalized Wedding Ceremony in the Rain

Although Vesela and Michael officially married at the Ottawa courthouse a few weeks prior, they saved the celebration for a custom ceremony with a friend officiating. One of the most touching moments? When Michael’s mother, overwhelmed with emotion, couldn’t let go of his arm as she walked him down the aisle. Cue all the tears.

And of course, their beloved pug, Apny, stole the show as the ring bearer—an adorable and hilarious moment that had everyone smiling.

Cocktail Hour with Super Smash Bros & Live Music

The cocktail hour was uniquely them. Guests were treated to live music, delicious canapés, and a Nintendo Switch setup for Super Smash Bros Brawl—a nod to the couple’s favorite pastime together. A guestbook vinyl record added a nostalgic, personal touch.

Crossword Puzzles, Speeches & A Wild Best Man Toast

As guests took their seats for dinner, they discovered custom crossword puzzles at their place settings—a creative and interactive way to keep the energy high between courses. The speeches were heartfelt and hilarious, especially when the best man kicked things off by declaring he’d eaten seven donuts and taken ten shots. Legendary.

Dance Floor Vibes with The Wailin’ Hues

From ceremony to reception, The Wailin’ Hues kept the soundtrack of the day alive with live music that brought everyone to their feet. Having live performances throughout the day gave us the perfect chance to capture movement, dancing, and genuine joy—exactly the kind of candid wedding photos Vesela and Michael were hoping for.

How We Met the Couple

We first met Vesela and Michael at the Capital Wedding Show in Ottawa, where we immediately clicked. (Josh’s puns may have sealed the deal.) They told us they were drawn to our candid wedding photography style—real moments, real memories, real laughter.

Since their wedding was so intimate, they really wanted photos and video that captured their guests having fun, interacting, and simply being present. That kind of storytelling is exactly what we specialize in.

Rolling With the Weather & Capturing the Real Moments

Spring weddings in Ottawa can be unpredictable, and this day was no exception. With unexpected weather changes, we had to adjust timelines and locations—but that’s all part of the job. Being flexible and adapting to shifting plans helped us document every moment as it unfolded, rain or shine.
